Shopify Alternatives in Nigeria (2026): Local Ecommerce Platforms Compared
Is Shopify the right fit for a Nigerian business? We weigh its strengths and costs against local alternatives, including Webift, Bumpa, Sellora and WooCommerce, on pricing, payments, delivery and migration.
The short answer: Shopify is a powerful platform, but it is not automatically the best fit for a Nigerian merchant. It prices plans in US dollars, does not offer Shopify Payments in Nigeria and adds its own transaction fee on top of your payment provider's. Merchants who want local payment options, naira-first workflows and simpler setup often compare Nigeria-focused platforms such as Webift, Bumpa and Sellora, while those who need global reach or advanced apps may stay with Shopify.

Why is Shopify so popular?
Shopify is one of the world's most widely used hosted ecommerce platforms. It is popular because it removes the technical work of running a store: hosting, security and updates are included, and merchants get a polished checkout, themes and a very large app marketplace. Many agencies and freelancers know it well, which makes help easy to find.
The advantages of Shopify
- A mature platform with strong reliability and a large community
- A big app ecosystem for marketing, reviews, subscriptions and more
- Polished themes and checkout that work well on mobile
- Room to scale from a first store to a large international brand
- Multi-channel selling options through its apps and integrations
If your plan involves selling to customers abroad or building a large catalogue, these strengths are real.
What should Nigerian merchants evaluate before choosing Shopify?
Current Shopify pricing
On Shopify's pricing page (checked 12 October 2026), plans are listed in US dollars:
| Plan | Annual billing | Month to month |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $19/month | $27/month |
| Grow | $54/month | $72/month |
| Advanced | $299/month | $399/month |
Shopify Plus starts at $2,300 per month. Shopify also advertised a three-day free trial followed by $1 per month for three months. Prices and offers change, so check Shopify's page before you pay.
Currency and billing
Because plans are priced in dollars, your cost in naira depends on the exchange rate and on how your bank or card handles international payments. We could not find Shopify documentation confirming how Nigerian merchants are billed, so confirm with Shopify and your bank which cards are accepted and what fees apply before you start. As a budgeting habit, convert the dollar price using your bank's current rate and add a margin for changes.
Payment gateway compatibility
Shopify Payments is not on Shopify's list of supported countries, which does not include Nigeria. Nigerian merchants therefore use third-party gateways. Paystack publishes a Shopify app that lists Nigeria as supported, and Flutterwave also offers integration options. Using an outside gateway adds a Shopify transaction fee: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced, on top of the gateway's own fee.
For reference, Paystack's published local fee was 1.5% plus ₦100, capped at ₦2,000, and Flutterwave's was 2% (checked 12 October 2026). The terms of each provider apply.
Local workflows
Many Nigerian merchants need things that are common locally: bank transfer at checkout, cash on delivery, delivery pricing by state or city, and a store that works on a modest phone and data plan. Check how each of these is handled on any platform you consider, including whether it needs an extra app and an extra monthly cost.
Shopify alternatives for Nigerian merchants

| Webift | Nigeria-first online store | Free plan; Standard ₦5,000/month |
| Bumpa | Social sellers with inventory and POS | Starter ₦15,000 per quarter |
| Sellora | Store builder with courier partners | Free plan; paid from ₦5,000/month |
| WooCommerce | Developer-led custom stores | Plugin free; hosting extra |
| Wix | Design-led sites | Plans listed in US dollars |
| Paystack Storefront | Quick shop for Paystack users | Free; Paystack fees apply |
1. Webift: a locally focused alternative
Webift is an ecommerce-first platform for Nigerian and African merchants. It prices plans in naira and offers a free plan with no subscription price, plus a Standard plan at ₦5,000 per month, ₦12,000 per quarter, ₦25,000 for six months or ₦50,000 per year (checked 12 October 2026; prices may change).
- Payments: Paystack and Flutterwave using your own account, bank transfer with manual confirmation, and cash on delivery for physical products, all switchable together
- Delivery: home delivery, pickup or both, by city, state or anywhere in Nigeria, with free-delivery thresholds
- Products: physical, digital and service products, with variants, stock tracking and discount codes
- Management: order stages, customers, abandoned-cart emails, staff roles and a sales overview
Limitations compared with Shopify: no app marketplace, no point-of-sale, no live courier rate integrations, no multi-currency storefront and no bulk product import. It is built for selling in Nigeria, not for large international operations.
2. Bumpa
Bumpa lists Starter at ₦15,000 per quarter and Pro at ₦30,000 per quarter. It combines an online store with inventory, POS and social selling tools, and lists Paystack and Nomba for payments. It suits merchants who sell in person and through Instagram and WhatsApp. Read Webift vs Bumpa or our list of Bumpa alternatives to compare.
3. Sellora
Sellora is a Nigerian store builder with a free plan for up to 25 products and paid plans at ₦5,000, ₦12,000 and ₦25,000 per month, according to its site. It lists Paystack and Flutterwave and logistics partners such as GIG, DHL and Kwik.
4. WooCommerce
WooCommerce is a free WordPress plugin with Paystack and Flutterwave plugins. You pay for hosting, a domain and extensions and you manage security and updates, so it suits merchants with technical help. It gives more control than Shopify at a lower platform fee but needs more work.
5. Wix and Paystack Storefront
Wix is a drag-and-drop builder with plans priced in US dollars. Paystack Storefront is a free, simple shop for Paystack merchants. Neither replaces a full store platform for a growing catalogue, but both are quick ways to start.
Pricing comparison at a glance
| Item | Shopify Basic | Webift Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Plan price | $19/month on annual billing | ₦5,000/month |
| Currency | US dollars | Naira |
| Extra fee on outside gateways | 2% on Basic | Check your plan details at sign-up |
| Payment provider fee | Charged by provider | Charged by provider |
Do not read this as a verdict that one is cheaper: the plans include different features, and the exchange rate changes the dollar price. Compare what you need, then compare the cost.
Feature comparison
| Feature | Shopify | Webift |

Practical migration considerations
Moving from Shopify to another platform is manageable if you plan it:
- Export your data. Shopify lets you export products and customers as CSV files from its admin. Check Shopify's help center for current steps.
- Expect to re-enter products. Webift has no import tool, so you add products in the dashboard. For a catalogue of a few dozen items, this takes a day or two.
- Re-create your payment and delivery setup in the new platform.
- Keep your old store running until the new one handles real orders.
- Tell customers about the new link on WhatsApp and Instagram.
- Watch your search visibility. If your Shopify store has an established web address, plan how customers and search engines will find the new one.
